Death Waits For No ManThe shrill laughter of the carrion birds outside my open window consumed my ears, blocking out all other sound. Their mirth left me fearful, anxious; my wheezing gasps reflect the pathetic mongrel I had become. I could feel my frail ribcage pushing up against my bruised and withered lungs as they shrieked for oxygen. My bones were brittle, a side effect of the crippling illness that had plagued me since I was a lad. My weary eyes searched the room for a sign, an acknowledgement of my existence. A candle worn to the wick, the only source of light in this dank, filth filled room, drew my gaze but held it for no more than a moment. IDeath Waits For No Man
